The following answers were provided to People for Education - an independent parents organization working to support public education in Ontario's English, French and Catholic schools.

What skills and experiences do you have that would make you a good trustee?

My skill set includes 17 years of professional communications experience, 26 years of public sector experience, a lifetime of volunteer experience in my community, adult teaching, elementary level supply teaching, participation in several parish ministries and a product of the elementary and secondary Catholic school system right here in my community. I have hands-on experience with public policy development and considerable municipal, provincial and federal government relations experience.

What are the top three issues facing your board?

1. Planning for growth - Provincial forecasts estimate that Hamilton's population will grow by more than 200,000 over the next few decades. The building boom has already begun. The Board must be ready to build.
2. Safety & security - Parents, school admistrators and police must work hand-in-hand to ensure our students and staff aren't at risk of violence.
3. Catholicity - Ensuring a contiguous Catholic community with Catholic values modeled by students, teachers, parents & leaders.

What experience have you had with Ontario publicly-funded schools?

I am a product of the Catholic elementary and secondary school system in my community. I have served on School Councils as Chair, member and Accommodations Ctee. member. I have experience as an emergency supply teacher with the Halton CDSB. I am a member of MPP McMeekin's citizen Education Advisory Panel. Above all, I am a parent of three wonderful children who have thrived in our community's Catholic elementary and secondary schools.

Which community organizations, political parties or unions are you affiliated with?

I have no official affiliation with any unions or political parties. I have served as a Board member and coach for several local amateur youth athletic clubs and associations. I am a member of the Knights of Columbus Catholic fraternity and President-Elect of the Golden Horseshoe Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators.

As trustee, how will you work with the parents, students, school councils and community members in your area?

Good communication and solid partnerships are paramount. Two-way balanced communication is key to any organization's success. I will work to ensure that parents, students, staff, Board members, clergy and other key stakeholders stay well informed and knowledgeable. I will develop strategic partnerships to allow all stakeholders to be engaged in building a strong and sustainable Catholic school system in Hamilton.
